1.0 GENERAL INFO
1.1 What's the purpose of this list?
This list is for the discussion of all things pertaining to the Los Angeles Galaxy and soccer in general.

1.2 How do I (un)subscribe?
1.3 How do I post to the list?
Send posts to galaxy@lists.americasnet.com. 1.4 I'm getting flooded by email! What can I do about it?

You can try the digest. To switch, just send mail to: galaxy-request@lists.americasnet.com
And in the BODY of the message, just put: digest true
To switch back, just send mail to: galaxy-request@lists.americasnet.com
And in the BODY of the message, just put: digest false

1.5 Is there a website?
The official Galaxy website is at: http://www.lagalaxy.com/ There is also this site maintained by the Galaxians: http://www.galaxians.com/.
And you can find a list of Galaxy pages here.

1.6 Is there a list archive?
Not at the moment. We hope to have one soon.

1.7 Who are the Galaxians?

The Galaxians are a multicultural group of fans who get together to cheer for the Los Angeles Galaxy of Major League Soccer. Known as the Galaxian Band because of our famous drums, we provide a fun, safe, noisy place for soccer fans to support the best team.
For more info on the Galaxians visit the website (see 1.5)

2.0 LIST CONTENT AND INSIDE JOKES
2.1 What are the list rules?
We like to keep things pretty open. We will not tolerate extreme personal attacks or racism (we may keep you around to make fun of though ;-).
We do ask that you follow the generally accepted netiquette guidelines, like deleting irrelevant unsubscribe info), or excess profanity.

2.2 I know the score, I know the score!! Should I post it?
Sure. But please put a spoiler warning in the subject line ([R] for result is sufficient).
Many people tape matches to watch later and don't want to see the result beforehand.

2.3 I have this cool picture/sound/software that I want to share, can I post it?
Please don't. Not everyone will want it. And those who are on the digest won't get it as an attachment, all they will see are line and lines (and lines) of gobbledy-gook.

2.4 I thought this was a soccer list; what is all this other stuff I'm seeing?
Fluff. Mailing lists reflect their membership.
This one happens to get off topic and a bit silly at times (especially true when there is little soccer to discuss).
The fact that this is a regional list where many members know each other adds to the "fluffiness."

2.5 I see posts in Spanish; why?
Although this is primarily an English speaking forum, we get many posts in Spanish. This is because:
  • Southern California has a huge Latino/Latina population.
  • The Galaxy has several players from Spanish speaking countries.
  • Since many on the list also speak Spanish (and some live in Mexico), we do not discourage people from posting in Spanish. If you want something in Spanish translated, just ask. There's usually someone who'll be happy to translate.

2.6 What is NAS?
The North American Soccer mailing list. Frequently those who are on NAS will forward stuff from there that is relevant and/or interesting.

2.7 Should I subscribe to NAS?
If you want. Here's how (from their FAQ):
Either visit the webpage: http://lyris1.telelists.com/htbin/lyris.pl?enter=nas&text_mode=0
One security issue with subscribing on the webpage: Even thoughthe password that you type in is "*" for you, your actual password will show up in clear text for anyone that has admin priviledges.
This fact might be true for other web logins.
The best suggestion is to keep web passwords and sensitive separate. I'm sure that these passwords should be as safe as any password in cleartext, but I feel that I also need to inform you of this 'security' problem.
or send email to: join-nas@telelists.com

2.8 Who is Andrew Griffiths?
A lad in England who had aspirations to play for the Galaxy. According to him, he seems to be a budding Pele. Whether he is one (and whether he even exists) is open to debate. Seems to have disappeared (but will never be forgotten).

2.9 What's a BISSWURM?
A lady who objected to the "adult" content of the list. She made all kinds of weird threats (contacting ISPs etc.). She was soon gone, but has been a running joke ever since.

2.10 What adult content?!?!?
There really is none. Occasionally there is some profanity and double-entendres, but for the most part we behave.

2.11 Why does everyone pick on GalaxyFan?
Because we can.

2.12 What's a Grand Galactic Emperor?
The leader of the Galaxians (and a listmember). Currently, this is Ozzy Gomez.

2.13 What were the Hurtado wars?
In the first half of the 1997 season Hurtado was struggling a bit, one list regular decided he would share his views over & over sparking flame wars. This led to several running jokes (e.g. Vick's blinfolded grandmother & roller goals).

2.14 Vick's grandmother? Rollergoals?
Back during the Hurtado Wars, Hurtado scored a goal that Vick felt his grandmother could have scored blindfolded. Been a running joke ever since.
Another of Hurtado's goals was one that just rolled in, thus deemed not impressive enough for some on the list.

3.0 THE GALAXY 3.1 Which radio station carries the Galaxy games?
KTNQ 1020 AM

3.2 Hey! I don't understand Spanish; where's the English station?
KRLA 870 AM, KXMX 1190 AM

3.3 Which TV stations broadcast Galaxy games?
Several: ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, KCAL, FOX SPORTS WEST, FOX SPORTS WEST2

3.4 Who is Captain Dan?
Defender Dan Calichman, former captain of the team. Since traded to the Revolution :-(.

3.5 Who is "El Brody"?
Goalkeeper Jorge Campos. It's a nickname he picked up surfing on the beaches of Acapulco, his home town. He was traded to the Chicago Fire, but we still talk about him occassionally.

3.6 Who is "El Tanque"?
Forward Eduardo Hurtado. It's Spanish for "The Tank". Traded to the MetroStars. One person still talks about him.

3.7 Who is "El Gato"?
Goalkeeper Kevin Hartman. It's Spanish for "The Cat".

3.8 Who is Danny V.?
Danny Villanueva, Jr., once the Galaxy President/General Manager of the team.
